Malia Sadang Tateyama is born and raised in Maui, Hawai’I on the Westside in Lahaina. She graduated from the prestige Lahainaluna High School. Currently she works in the hospitality business in one of the many hotels in Ka’anapali while helping her husband raise her ohana; two beautiful young girls. Growing up she embraced her culture in halau (school) dancing hula & other Polynesian dances such as Tahitian and Maori. Her training continues to be been ongoing now for 30 years, since “hana buttah days” or childhood, under different Kumu that have provided her aloha & ike (wisdom) to pass on to generations to come.
Dancing worship hula for the church body she felt the desire to “share with others the esthetics in which the Hawaiian culture connects hula with spirituality”. Malia describes worship hula as “more than just a performance, like dancing in a venue…. it’s an uplifting feeling. A gift that you can share with people.”
Currently Malia is the kumu (teacher) for Harvest Kumulani Chapel Worship Hula Halau. She has lead this group since 2015, but has provided worship hula for the church body for many years before.
