In December of 2015, I went to church like any other Sunday. After worship and announcements, pastor got up and was telling us about Nepal, how the church in Nepal was affected by the earthquake, how churches were completely destroyed and in need of our help. Long story short, an offering had been taken and the pastor said he would like someone from our church to go and deliver it personally. When he said those words, I immediately knew it was me. Within 6 months I was on my way to Nepal.
This year, Harvest Kumulani Chapel started supporting a church in China. I was able to visit them on the way to Nepal and when the Chinese church found out I was going to Nepal, they tool an offering and gave it to me to bring. What a blessing! God’s people all around the world have the same heart… to give.
I arrived in Kathmandu late and was meeting my brother, Tom Dickson from Calvary Chapel South Maui. Early the next morning, we were off. I had no idea of the trip I was in for. An all day 10 hour road trip which consisted of 7 of the 10 off road. Hold on! We went over several mountain ranges and were high above the clouds. As we arrived at the mountain village, we met with several leaders over the next 3 days and got to hear all that God is doing on the mountain and surrounding villages. In Nepal, most people are either Hindu or Buddhist, but here in the mountains there were many, many believers. God is moving in the mountains.
There was 40 days of discipleship training for the high school age kids finishing up that week and we were invited to be a part of the graduation. It was a very big deal. Some of those kids were expected to be leaders and even pastors as they went back to their villages. I saw that leadership training was a huge need.
When we got back to Kathmandu, we met with other leaders. We also visited some orphanages where I presented the Chinese offering and met with a couple that rescues girls from sex trafficking.
I wanted to give a quick overview of the Nepal trip. if you are interested in helping the people of Nepal, please contact Harvest Kumulani Chapel at 808-669-6905.
