Kajukenbo – Christian Martial Arts

Kajukenbo is a Christ-based art that was started in the mid 1940’s in Oahu’s Palama settlement. At the time, it was one of the most violent places you could live. Five Christian martial arts experts saw the need for a practical self defense program that would be effective against multiple attackers with knives, clubs, and baseball bats. So they created a mixed martial art that was and is effective. It is so effective that Bruce Lee trained with Kajukenbo’s founding fathers before he opened his school in San Francisco.

Here at Harvest Kumulani Maui, we use Kajukenbo as an outreach to our community and fellowship for our congregation. If you’re looking for Christ centered, no nonsense, self defense art that works, come check it out!

Classes are taught by Rick Avila every Tuesday and Thursday in the Oasis Building. All skill levels accepted!

Almighty and Eternal God,
Protector of all who put their trust in thee,
Accept the humble homage of our faith and love in thee the one true God.
Bless our efforts to preserve the integrity of the United States,
A nation founded on Christian Principles,
Enlighten our rules,
Guide our lawmakers,
Protect the Sanctity of our homes,
And bless our efforts in these exercises,
Who’s sole purpose is developing our bodies,
To keep others mindful of thy Commandments.
Give us perseverance in our actions,
So that we may use this as a means to keep closer to you,
The one true God.
