Aloha Friends and Family!
This has been a year of many changes. I first came to Hong Kong in 2015 as a DTS (Discipleship Training School) student with YWAM (Youth With a Mission), Harbour City. After that life changing introduction into the mission field, God called me to join YWAM as a staff member. I’ve grown so much in my relationship with Jesus, leadership, outreach, relationships/working with other cultures, and just learning how to live life in a completely different country. My time with the base has come to an end and I am more than grateful for the opportunity to be with them. This past June (2018) I transitioned full time with a ministry called Sons and Daughters.
Sons and Daughters:
This ministry was started by a lady from YWAM Harbour City, named Kelley Craft. She was invited by a friend to go to a red light district in Hong Kong in 2009 and realized how huge the sex industry was in this city. Since then, the ministry has grown to what it is now. We run four outreaches throughout the week. We have a drop in center in the middle of Wan Chai (red light district) and provide classes such as baking, working out, sewing, bible study, counseling, etc. For those that have decided to leave the trade, we have a transition home where the women can live until they finish a nine month – year program which will help them transition to a normal life into society. Many women we work with are from abroad so they go back to their home nations after this program. We’ve had six girls finish that program so far! Our heart for this ministry is to reach out to the women of the red light districts of Hong Kong and to bring God’s presence and love. We desire for the people in the sex trade to abandon the industry, be freed from bondages, and be transformed that they may walk into their destinies as sons and daughters of God.
Outreach Coordinator:
My role with Sons and Daughters is the outreach coordinator. I work with the outreach director (Brittney) as we go out three to four times a week to share Jesus with the women that have been marginalized by society. I am in charge of coordinating our worship leaders, bakers (we hand out baked goods on outreach), YWAM/outside team involvement, and church partnerships. I had a similar role while at the YWAM base and I believe God prepared me for this during that time.
Leadership change:
As I mentioned earlier, Kelley Craft pioneered this ministry. God has called her into other things in America in this season and has just handed over her leadership role to our new director, Janice Chan. As this ministry has developed over the years, we believe she’ll bring Sons and Daughters into new heights as an organization. There are many changes this year for us as we become more legally established.
I want to thank you for taking the time to read this and for your support. It definitely means so much to have people back home and other parts of the world that stand with me and believe in me. God has continued to amaze me in so many ways over these past three years. You are one of my answered prayers. Please feel free to message me if you have any questions, concerns, or you just want to talk :)
I love you and may God bring you deeper in his presence.
Love, Ellen
